San Jose del Cabo is captivating right away. Its vivid character and bright colors invite you to walk in the city center through the cobblestone streets and under the tunnel of papel picado hanging above, from one side to the other.

At first glance, it looks like any other picturesque Mexican town. But there's much more to this city. Located behind San José del Cabo's iconic main square and cathedral, the ever-growing Gallery District, has become the cultural center of Los Cabos in recent years. High-end fine art galleries exhibit original artwork, sculpture, photographs, prints, and jewelry made by regional and global modern artists. The Gallery District is the sum of fourteen representative galleries in the city. As an active member of the art association, each gallery provides an inspiring environment for tourists and residents alike by showcasing their artwork.

Experience San Jose's Art Walk

The Art Walk is a weekly event that takes place every Thursday evening from 5 to 9 p.m. when galleries open their doors to the public. The Gallery District Association arranged this event for art lovers and roaming visitors. During the event, you can meet artists such as conceptual painter Frank Arnold and see exclusive exhibits from the galleries. Adding to the established studios, independent artists showcase their artwork in the central plaza, where you can stroll in between vivid paintings and original sculptures. Throughout the evening, street performers such as singers and dancers contribute to the lively mood, adding to the beauty and cultural interactions of San José del Cabo.

This weekly evening art stroll is one of the easiest ways to get acquainted with San José del Cabo's vibrant art scene, with a vast offering of artisan products, designers like Hilaria, boutiques like La Rama, and many more. Shops and art galleries welcome both casual visitors and professional art collectors. Enjoy an evening walk through the Gallery District, stopping by the art galleries, shopping, sipping mezcal, and dining at one of the many local eateries.

Dining in San Jose

To complement the artistic evening, you can stop by one of the many local eateries strewn around the area. Here you'll find everything from the traditional mole tamales to complex fusion cuisine with cooking styles worldwide. Try out La Lupita for excellent tacos, La Revolución on its iconic corner, or Yumana Kitchen with its 'two worlds' proposal. Locally made beer and various specialty cocktails are served at bars and breweries like Baja Brewing Company.

San Jose Del Cabo is a welcoming place where anyone can enjoy, whether you're an art lover or simply want to soak up the atmosphere. Visit this enchanting place, walk around, and enjoy the vibrancy and diversity of the Gallery District.
